Ajay Chandrakar (born 24 June 1963) is a cabinet minister in the Bharatiya Janata Party ruled government of Chhattisgarh state of India. He is serving as the Panchayat and Rural Development, Culture, Tourism and Parliamentary Affairs Minister of Chhattisgarh State. After losing in 2008 assembly elections, he bounced back with a record win ever in any constituency of Dhamtari district. In 2003, he became was allotted the portfolios of Panchayat and Rural Development Minister as well as a Minister of Parliamentary Affairs in the Chhattisgarh government. In 2004, he was also assigned additional portfolios of Science and Technology, Technical Education, and Manpower Planning. Due to a reshuffling of the cabinets in 2007, he was made the Minister of Higher Education. Ajay Chandrakar during his tenure as a cabinet ministry of CG govt., in various capacity, has been successful in catalyzing the passing of rules and regulations for 3 universities in a single day. His contribution to the education domain of CG`s infra is immense with the establishment of the SIRD, NIT, OPEN SCHOOL, BUSINESS EDUCATION DIVISION, REGIONAL SCIENCE CENTRE, A MILITARY SCHOOL in Ambikapur and commissioning of IIM CORRESPONDENCE for AIEEE. Although surmounted by controversies in his political career, a smear campaign so very rampant in the politics, he has avoided complaining for with complementing his constituency and the state of Chhattisgarh with better infrastructural development in the rural nooks and corners, major economic boost to the state tourism. ==Early life and education== Most of Ajay Chandrakar`s education took place in his native KURUD. After completion of higher secondary education, he did graduation from SBR College in Bilaspur. Always a self-learner, he pursued MA (Hindi literature) from Pt. Ravi Shankar Shukla University enrolling at Durga College Raipur. His research in the plays of Vishnu Prabhakar was hindered by increasing political agitation prevalent during those days.
